|
Dan Biederman is the co-founder of Grand Central Partnership, 34th Street Partnership, and Bryant Park Corporation, three of NYC’s most successful Business Improvement Districts (BIDs). He currently serves as the President of the latter two. In 1980, he co-founded BPC and began the restoration of Bryant Park. Under Biederman’s guidance, BPC instituted a program of security, sanitation, capital repair and public event planning that transformed the park from a symbol of urban neglect into a gorgeous, impeccably maintained and crime-free gathering place dubbed by the NY Times as “Manhattan’s Town Square”. In 1989, Biederman co-founded the 34th Street Partnership, a Business Improvement District covering 31 key commercial blocks in midtown Manhattan.
Instituting methods and skills honed at Bryant Park, 34SP was instrumental in the dramatic revival that has made 34th Street one of NYC’s most vibrant neighborhoods. Crime is down 90%, the streets are free of litter, the physical plant is excellent and pedestrian counts are consistently among the city’s highest. In 2002, 34SP transformed the downtrodden Herald and Greeley Squares into jewel-like parks that provide places for pedestrians to rest and are popular locations for events and product launches. In honor of his vital role in cleaning up, beautifying and making safe some of the most important real estate in the world, Biederman was recently the recipient of the Manhattan Institute’s first Lifetime Achievement Award for Social Entrepreneurship. The award is presented annually to a non-profit leader who has found innovative, private solutions for America’s most pressing social problems.
Biederman is a magna cum laude graduate of Princeton University, with an A.B. in Public Affairs in 1975. He also earned an M.B.A. with Distinction from Harvard Business School in 1977.
